Watching movies with Media Player Classic is great, but enabling the subtitles can be very frustrating! Here’s how to get subtitles working in MPC.
- Make sure that in the options you select Directshow Video -> VMR7 (renderless) or VMR9 (renderless) on the Playback -> output screen. This is required for displaying subtitles. External subtitles will only work with VMR9, at least for .MKV files.
- Make sure the subtitles have the same name as the movie (except for the extension).
- Right-click on the movie while playing it, go to “Subtitles”, enable them and select the ones you want to use if multiple are available,
- Be aware that .MKV files can have the subtitles embedded in the movie.
